Canary Wharf, London

Picture of dock and Canary Wharf at night, London

Canary Wharf, London

Who wouldn’t want to have this for a view?  Cityscapes don’t get much nicer than the lights of Canary Wharf shining over the Thames.

(In accordance with my normal custom, I’d link you to the Wikipedia page for Canary Wharf, but wikipedia has gone dark for 24 hours in protest against the proposed US SOPA and PIPA legislation – I protest I whole-heartedly endorse.  Oh, and here’s the official WordPress statement in support of the strike.)

Old Melbourne Gaol, Melbourne

The Old Melbourne Gaol opened in 1845 (this wing was built in the 1850s), and was the site of the execution of 135 executions, including that of Ned Kelly.

Architecturally, I’m sure you can see similarities to new wing of Kilmainham Gaol, which is not a coincidence – both were constructed in accordance with the leading theories of Victorian prison reform.  (It should be noted that, from the stories of both gaols, ‘Victorian prison reform’ didn’t include such niceties as ‘treating prisoners humanely’.)

Repost: Arc de Triomphe

Duotoned picture of the Arc de Triomphe, Paris, France

Arc de Triophe, Paris, France

I know it’s not the traditional view of the Arc de Triomphe, but this is how I remember it – looming overhead while the tourist bus recklessly plunged through the insane traffic which surrounds it.

2012 Diary: Spain

I’ve been making calendars for a while now, but this year I decided to branch out and try my hand at something new – a diary. Or, more precisely, a week-to-a-page diary featuring pictures from my recent trip to Spain. The pictures include some familiar favourites, as well as new pictures not previously posted on Journey Photographic.

As this is my first diary, with my own custom template, I’d really appreciate any feedback you’d like to offer – and if you feel like buying a copy, that’s great too!

Wellington Caves, Australia

And, we’re back!  I hope everyone had a great Christmas/Holiday season and New Year.   I’m looking forward to catching up with everyone’s blogs.  I’m also horribly behind in answering my own comments, but I promise I read and really appreciate every one.  Hopefully I should get caught up soon.

Here’s a quick pic from my Christmas holidays, from the Wellington Caves. (That would be Wellington, the small country town in Australia, and not Wellington, the capital of New Zealand, just to clear up any confusion!)
