Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car, Hong Kong
If you want to see Lantau Island’s Tian Tan Buddha, you have two options – travel up the winding mountain access road, or take the Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car. We took land route on the way up, and braved the cable car on the way down. During the descent, I distracted myself from our impending doom by refusing to remove my eyes from the viewfinder of my camera. (Why yes, I do have a slight problem with being suspended by nothing but a cable over a very significant drop – what gave it away?)

I totally understand your “emotions”
Would have done the same myself!
But, gladly for you, the photo turned out great!
Yeah, the photos I got made it worth it, I guess
Great photo; maybe Lantau next time in HK.
The Buddha is worth a trip, and I suppose the cable car has nice views, as long as you don’t mind heights!
Well… I mean… At least you would be falling in water. But yeah, I see how you felt that way
From that height, I hear it feels like cement…
I’m sure it was safe, but I would be feeling the same way. I can’t even get up the gumption to go on amusement park rides anymore.
Yeah, it’s funny how little logic has to do with things we are afraid of.
Cool shot! Looks like it could be a scary ride!
I wouldn’t say it was fun, but it’s long enough you start to relax eventually.
great photo, you have captured, the open sky/water beautifully! I hate being that high up, but at the same time love it, and always want to to take the ride! in your case bravery paid off big!
Thanks Janice. Nice to see I’m not alone in my reaction
While I don’t enjoy it, you do get the best views…
You are much braver than I am!
Made for an excellent shot, though!
*re-checking structural integrity of chair*
It was all pride – my grandmother was with me, and she had no problems with the height. I couldn’t back out in front of her!
That does look a little scary. Great shot though.
Thanks Edith. It’s not my preferred way to travel, but you do get some great pictures, so it has an upside.
quelle vision !! la grande bleue n’a qu’à bien se tenir !!:)
Thanks didier!
Very cool shot!
Thanks Eden!
Nice shot, really does make it look scary.
It *was* scary… or maybe that was just me
I like the blue background….sea and sky like a unity….travelling in small “boxes” towards something…..
Thanks Askel. Of all the pictures I took of the cable car, I like this the most for it’s almost otherworldly/abstracted feeling.
Really cool! Looks somehow strange. Usually I associate cable cars with snowy mountains. Seeing that against the blue water creates a kind of strange feeling.
Well, we were coming down from mountains… no snow though, but I guess that’s the tropics for you!
What an awesome shot!!! And yes, funny how when you are looking through a camera lens you feel slightly safer
Thanks Jennifer! Any distraction is a good distraction
