Face in a crowd, Covent Garden, London
When I’m in London, I try to make a point of visiting Covent Garden to photograph the world-class buskers, but on this occasion it was the crowds that caught my attention. While I was trying to get a photo that showed the sheer crush, a woman, somehow managing to negotiate her way through the largely stationary crowd with some speed, walked straight into my shot. This picture has always been one of my favourites, but it’s taken a couple of years before I made a final version I was happy with.

Gates and Guard, Buckingham Palace, London
The locks on the gates of Buckingham Palace may be impressively large, but I’ve a sneaking suspicion they are just for show, unlike the soldier, a member of the Queen’s Guard. Up until 1959, the guards at Buckingham Palace were stationed outside the fence, until a Guardsman, feed up with pestering from tourists, kicked one of them on the ankle.
Perhaps we should be glad they are inside the fence now, even if it makes it more difficult to get a picture!

Mannequin and Horse, Camden Market, London
I’m not sure what it was supposed to be selling, but this mannequin torso was leaning against the rear of the Stables Market, underneath the bronze horse sculptures which decorate this section of the Camden Market.

Punting (II), Cambridge
While on our leisurely punting adventure in Cambridge, we passed this odd group in their own punt. The dog at the front seemed enthralled by the experience, which I suppose is fair enough – he probably doesn’t go on walks like this often!

Church Ruins, London
Hidden in the centre of London, the ruins of St Dunstan-in-the-East are now a public garden. The church was originally built in the 1100′s, and was severely damaged in the Blitz.
