Time for a repost from the archives, this time from the Blasket Islands, just off the west coast of the Dingle Peninsula, Ireland.
Cliffs of Moher (II), Ireland

Cliffs of Moher (II), Ireland
There’s a general lack of sunset pictures on this blog, mostly because I’m very picky about what I photograph in front of them (the lack of sunrises, on the other hand, is purely down to my desire to be asleep at that time of the morning). Still, I think the Cliffs of Moher make an impressive compliment for even the most amazing sunset.

Blasket Islands, Ireland
When you are taking pictures on a small boat, in fairly choppy seas where the Atlantic Ocean meets Europe, you can expect some blurry pictures. And every so often, you get a happy accident
No, the original wasn’t this blurry – in fact, at the size I post things on the blog it probably would have passed as sharp – but I could see the hints of something interesting and decided to run with it. Let’s just say this is another of those inspired by Impressionism pictures. (It also looks a lot better on a black background, but since that isn’t something I can do on this blog you’ll just have to trust me on that one.)

On a sunny day, the colours of the Dingle Peninsula are nothing short of spectacular.

Cliffs of Moher, Ireland (September 2009)
Those of you who’ve been around Journey Photographic for a while will have no doubt noticed that I am not a landscape shooter, at least not of the sweeping-vistas-in-beautiful-evening/morning-light variety. That said, when I decided to visit Ireland, one of my major goals was to work on my landscape skills.
The Cliffs of Moher seemed like the perfect subject, but on our arrival we were greeted by a dark grey sky, blustering winds and freezing rain. Luckily, I managed to squeeze in a visit after dinner the next day, when conditions were decidedly more agreeable (although the freezing temperatures remained the same).
And if these cliffs look familiar, they’ve featured in many movies, including a starring role as the ‘Cliffs of Insanity’ in the movie of The Princess Bride.
