Tung Chung, Hong Kong

This picture of a junk in front of the high-rise apartment buildings of Tung Chung was taken from the Ngong Ping Cable Car. (Those of you who are familiar with my feelings about heights can imagine my reaction to spending 25 minutes suspended hundreds of meters in the air in a transparent box, but at least I got one good shot from it.)

The juxtaposition of modern and traditional was one of the most striking things about Hong Kong – I think this picture does a good job of capturing that.

  1. Nice contrasts in this image. You already mentioned old vs. new, but there is very tall vs very small as well as vertical lines vs horizontal lines. Nicely done!

  2. Wonderful symmetry in the buildings in this shot. Love the way the verticals complement the horizontal lines in the water too. I’ve spent a bit of time perusing other shots in this blog. I must say that I really envy you your travels and your wonderful photos from such diverse places. Great stuff!

  3. Definitely feels as if ‘suspended’. What a fantastic way to capture the contrast between the high tech high rises..and the low tech boat in the river. Love this!
