Punting, Cambridge

Punting, Cambridge

As soon as we mentioned we were going to Cambridge, people asked if we were going punting.  Apparently, punting is the Thing To Do in Cambridge – and there are enough billboard-wielding students flagging down every passing tourist to keep Cambridge on top as the number-one punting-destination in England for the foreseeable future!  Still, it turned out to be a lot of fun, and a great way to see The Backs.

  1. I have to admit, this is the first time I’ve heard of this “Punting.” Being here in the USA, the word punting is usually associated as a part of the game of American Football. Thanks for provided the link for “Punting in Cambridge” so I might educate myself — looks like it would be fun. 🙂

  2. I, too, had to look up “punting” as I am unfamiliar with the term. It looks like a lot of fun. I love the low angle on the photo, too.

  3. Ah… Typical English weather! 😉
Bet you don’t see that everyday in Aussie, mate?!
Oh, I recognise that Mathematical Bridge in the background!
    Did you enjoy Cambridge?
Personally, I think Cambridge is more charming than Oxford. 😉

    • Wiki informs me that you can punt in other english towns (Bath, Stratford-upon-Avon), so I think it can claim to be number one :P. I don’t think I’ll ever make it my primary mode of transport, but it was fun for a change 🙂

  5. We do like to think we are the number one punting destination in the Uk but it is also popular in Oxford and can be done in Canterbury too. Most would agree that Cambridge is the most spectacular. Really glad you enjoyed it.
