Wedding Party and Tourists, Piazza del Campidoglio, Rome

Time for another one from the archives… this picture of a wedding party in the Piazza del Campidoglio is another of my favourites.  Graphically, I love the way all the elements come together so symmetrically, but it also sums up one of my abiding impressions of Europe –  the occasionally tense juxtaposition of local people trying to live their lives, while throngs of tourists swirl around them.

    • Yeah, I had real trouble with that – the non-level street draws my eye too, but straighten that and the whole building leans and seems to curve in on itself. May have to have another go and see if I can get a happy medium.

  1. A street scene wedding! That is simply great. I like all those people walking around not paying attention to what is going on. The picture has a bit a Felini touch to it. Great work!

  2. I really like how you framed this, J.P… my eye goes right to that group of women in the center… and then you start noticing all those details around them (as you’ve mentioned), and the whole story seems to unfold from there…
    so nice!
    🙂
