Kilchurn Castle, Scotland

Kilchurn Castle, Loch Awe

Kilchurn Castle is a ruined 15th and 17th century castle on the banks of Loch Awe, in Argyll and Bute, Scotland.  You can access the castle itself from the other side of the loch, but if you want to be able to stand back and appreciate it in all its glory, you can park on the edge of the main road on the far side and walk (well, wade) through a soggy field to the edge of the loch.

We had rather grey and uninspiring weather for our visit, so none of the ‘classic’ shots of the castle against the mountain backdrop were particularly effective.  Inspiration struck while we were wandering around a small grove of trees and I found these mushrooms – the combination made for a much more interesting shot, at least in my opinion!

  1. What a magical scene!! I just love the way you framed the castle. Wishing you and yours all the best for this up and coming new year!
